Rental of space

 Dear friends, colleagues, partners!

The year 2018 has become a prominent one for the team of the “Ў” Gallery of Contemporary Art.

In the summer, we acquired a new spacious home and received a long-awaited opportunity to implement large-scale projects in the field of contemporary art in the new space. We strive to be as inclusive as possible and work for everyone without exception!

In 2018 we talked a lot about the formats of exclusion and exclusivity in exhibition projects.

In the first exhibition “NO EXCEPTIONS! In Process”, we looked at various aspects of exclusion from social and cultural life. We are very pleased with the arrival of the artist Irina Anufrieva from Sweden, who showed a 6-hour performance “Instead of Dances”. Many thanks to all the artists, curators and participants of the accompanying program of this project.

In August, the gallery showed the solo project of artist Uladzimir Hramovich “When the rocks...”, curated by Aleksei Borisionok.

In September, the gallery became a partner of the main exhibition of the Minsk Month of Photography. We thank Andrei Liankevich and the entire MMF team for their long-term cooperation and consistently high quality of the festival!

In October, the gallery opened the research project “ZBOR In Progress”, long-awaited and very important for all of us, which brought together the prominent works of the Belarusian contemporary art of the past 30 years with the participation of more than 50 artists at one site. We thank the project curators Maxim Tyminko and Andrei Dureika, the working group of the ZBOR project and all the artists who took part in the exhibition.

In early December, the German Embassy in Belarus held an exhibition and discussion project “100 years after the Great war”. We are grateful to the project curators Alexey Bratochkin, Oksana Zhgirovskaya and ECLAB for the contemporary view of history and a rich accompanying program!

Also in early December, the NGO“Radislava”held an exhibition on the issue of domestic violence, “Traditional Values”, in the small hall of the gallery, and one of the key discussions of the “March, Baby” movement took place.

In 2018, in partnership with CEC Artslink, we implemented two art residences. In June, the residence of the Azerbaijani photographer Eltaj Zeynalov, whose collaboration with the artist and curator Mikhail Gulin was presented at the first exhibition in the new space, took place. In October, the Ukrainian curator and researcher Asia Senina, who worked on the idea of the calendar of the history of contemporary Belarusian art, became our resident.

With the resumption of work in the new space in partnership with the NGO BelAPDIiMI, we began implementing a long-term educational program on inclusive interaction and approaches in organizing cultural events / mediation, taking into account the needs of people with disabilities. Since autumn, the fourth year of the educational program for managers in the field of culture and socially-oriented projects “ArtPlatform” has been launched, which is being implemented in partnership with the European Cultural Foundation. On Christmas, a book on the history of the Paris School created by a team of  Creative Workshops of the “Ў” Gallery with the support of BelGazPromBank and crowdfunding of the Ulej platform was published as a gift to our young audience.

Separately, we would like to thank the partners, thanks to whose support we confidently realized our plans and slept well))) Thank you for your support: Vondel, Voka-Doka, MTS, Belarusian People’s Bank, SPP, Huawei, Embassy of Germany in Belarus, Embassy of France in Belarus, Goethe Institute in Minsk and personally the director of the Institute Jacob Racek, vsl Kulturos Ambasada, CEC Artslink, European Cultural Foundation, Fundacja Villa Sokrates, ArtMode Style and Little Greene paints.

Our wonderful friends and partners from the media field - thank you so much for your interest in our projects and informational support!

Thanks to the whole team of the gallery, volunteers for their enthusiasm, dedication and willingness to experiment, and the guests of the gallery for their constant and high interest in contemporary art and the processes taking place in this field, their trust and your support!
